Seamus Heaney - Death of A Naturalist

For part of our GCSE coursework we have been asked to write an essay comparing and analyzing 2 songs, Death of a natural scientist by Seamus Heaney and In Mrs.Tilchers Class by Carol Ann Duffy. Both of these poems deal with the sense of touch of growing up and losing your childhood naturalness. Seamus Heaney was born in April 1939, the firstborn in a family of nine at the family farmhouse called Mossbawn, between Castledawson and Toomebridge in northerly Ireland. His father, Patrick Heaney, owned and worked a small farm of 50 acres in County Derry, but his real commitment was to cattle-dealing with his brother, Heaneys uncle. Heaney had a rural upbringing and grew up as a country boy. He attended the local primary school, Anahorish Primary. When he was twelve he received a scholarship to St.Columbs College, a Catholic boarding school situated in the city of Derry. While at St.Columbs College Heaneys younger brother was killed in a car accident. After this tragical in dicent Seamus went on to write Mid-Term Break and The Blackbird of Glanmore. Heaney studied face Language and English writings at Queens University, Belfast. He graduated with with a first class recognise degree Degree in 1961. He won the Nobel regard for Literature in 1995 and is currently living in capital of Ireland with his wife.

each poem Heaney wrote about had happened in his smell and every poem had a very strong meaning.
